Q. Why do you say “non-native?
A. The term non-native is less intimidating and more accurate, since anything new is, by definition,
unfamiliar or foreign.
Q. Can I learn a language just with your podcasts?
A. We are not the one-stop-shop for learning a language; nor is anyone. Beware the books, CDs, software programs and classes that claim to sell or teach you the “complete language” anything. There is no such thing.
Q. Shouldn’t a native speaker be teaching me his/her language?
A. Not necessarily. Your best bet is a simultaneous or consecutive mix of native and non-native speakers of your target language. Each contributes unique strengths to your language foundation and learning experience. Ideally, you want instructors who have excellent domain of your mother tongue and a solid command of the language in which you seek to become proficient. They can explain the grammar as you have also learned them in your own language and know where the respective differences are in relation to your own. Some offer extremely keen association techniques for the trickiest of points.
Q. What’s with that unusual pronunciation in Spanish?
A. You will notice two different pronunciations for certain letters and letter combinations, because your instructor has experience in a variety of regional differences that make this language so rich. (More about that in the podcasts, but in the long run, you will be thankful you’ve been exposed to that.) Contrary to what most people think, it is not a lisp or speech impediment. Additionally, she teaches ALL conjugations, including the “vosotros” informal plural found in Spain...used day in and day out by over 40 million people there. Most language programs, even those led by native Spanish speakers and from the most established sources, do not hail from Spain and thus completely ignore 1/6 of every conjugation in that language! On the other hand, programs developed from a peninsular or Castilian perspective either do not focus on the formal plural conjugations or err on the conservative side and teach you only that. But, you can win; just learn them all from the beginning.
Q. Can my Nauts in Spanish be applied to other language sessions?
A. Yes, as we expand our programming, you will be able to simultaneously work two or more languages. Any podcast or supplemental study guide purchased goes towards your total Log Book. If you’d like to receive occasional pointers from us, please take a moment to sign up for them. We don’t rent, sell or lease your names or any other information you provide us.
